Route Description
A pleasant walk along the Trans Pennine Trail from Ecclesfield to Blackburn. Passing through Butterthwaite Hamlet and Barber Wood.
Meeting at 10 am for 10.15 am at Ecclesfield Park Car Park (opposite Morrisons) S35 9AE
Optional Debrief after the walk will be at The Travellers Ecclesfield Common.
On leaving the car park crossing The Common we will join TPT via Station Road. The route takes us through a bridle path joining Butterthwaite to Grange Lane. Care needs to be taken here as there is no pavement. On entering the grounds of Thundercliffe Grange (once the hunting lodge of Wentworth Woodhouse) we will follow the trail through Barber Wood to rejoin the TPT at Blackburn and return to Ecclesfield.. The usual hazards are applicable in the woods.
Although the walk is nearly 5 miles there are only a couple of small gradients to negotiate.
Other Information
Free Parking in Ecclesfield Park Car Park. There are toilets in Morrisons before the walk and in the Travellers after.
