Route Description

A scenic circular walk from Mam Tor, exploring the Edale valley, Upper Booth, Jacob’s Ladder, Brown Knoll, South Head and Rushup Edge. This Peak District route combines quiet valley paths, open moorland, Pennine Way sections and excellent views across Kinder Scout, Edale and the Great Ridge.

Starting from the National Trust Mam Nick Car Park, this route by Sheffield Walkers descends beneath Mam Tor towards the Edale valley, passing through Barber Booth and Upper Booth before climbing towards Jacob’s Ladder and Edale Cross.

The route then crosses the open moorland around Brown Knoll, with wide views across Kinder Scout and the High Peak. Continuing towards South Head, the walk follows quieter paths and tracks around The Roych and Shireoaks before rejoining the ridge near Rushup Edge.

The final section follows the high ground eastwards along Rushup Edge, returning to Windy Knoll with impressive views towards Mam Tor, Castleton, Edale and the Great Ridge.
