Route Description
This walk will be approximately 10 miles. The walk starts from Skelmanthorpe and climb steadily until we reach Emley Moor mast. We then proceed to Emley village itself before our return to Skelmanthorpe. We pass over and under the narrow gauge Kirkless Light Railway which runs steam trains at the weekend. The walk has several viewpoints with 360 degree views.
This walk takes use through field paths and and tracks. There is a significant section that involves walking along a very quiet country lane to get us from the Mast to Emley village itself, this unfortunately is unavoidable. The paths are generally very good but there are places where the paths are overgrown , but they are all still passable with care. There are several stiles on this walk.
Starting from Skelmanthorpe the route climbs gradually for about 2 miles. Once arriving at the mast we will have a short drinks break before continuing with the walk. Lunch will be taken at an appropriate place depending on timings.

Parking for this walk will be in Skelmanthorpe itself. There is a small car park at the junction of Huddersfield Road and Cumberworth Road. There is additional on-street parking nearby. This route is dog friendly , however dogs must be kept on a short lead at all times due to livestock at various points on the route.
