Places remaining: 19
Route Description
This is Stage 4 of the Penistone Line Trail. It follows footpaths. bridleways and country lanes through rolling countryside. See: penline.co.uk for detailed description.
This walk starts from Penistone station, as we follow the Trans Pennine Trail for about a mile towards Oxspring. We then descend through a field to cross the River Don at the historic Willow Bridge. The route then ascends through a tunnel of trees to cross the A629. After crossing more fields the route follows Maggot Lane, to follow the wooded Dove Valley trail into Silkstone Common. ( probable lunch stop at the station!).
We leave the station along Hall Royd Lane to descend back to the railway and follow a path through woodland, to emerge at Dodwoth Cemetery and the interesting church of St. John the Baptist. En route to Dodworth Station, we might have time for some refreshment at the Travellers Inn!

It is going to be hot and sunny again on Thursday, but there will be plenty of shade with 3 woodland sections. The terrain is also easier with only 400ft of ascent. You have a chance of being ‘nettled’ near a couple of stiles, but no sections of jungle! It is quite a scenic walk. See recce photos.
I’ll take my pocket secateurs!!!
Ill be getting the 9.35 from sheffield.
Sorry can not make the walk today.
A lovely walk. Thanks Mike and Linda
