Route Description
This route combines the reservoirs of the Upper Derwent Valley with open Dark Peak moorland and the dramatic scenery of Alport Castles.
This Fairholmes and Alport Castles circular walk by Sheffield Walkers is a superb Dark Peak District route combining the reservoirs of the Upper Derwent Valley, open moorland and the dramatic rock formations of Alport Castles. From Fairholmes, the route follows the reservoirs north before climbing through Ditch Clough to Alport Castles and crossing the high ground of Rowlee Pasture, where extensive views stretch across the surrounding Peak District moors and valleys. The return crosses Lockerbrook and Bridge-end Pasture, descending towards Ladybower Reservoir crossing the open slopes of Hagg Side and Bridge-end Pasture before following the waterside route back to Fairholmes.

Meet at Fairholmes by the visitor centre. Parking at Fairholmes is £6 for all-day parking. The nearby Derwent Overlook Car Park charges £4.75 for all day
