Penistone Line Trail Stage 2 – Brockholes to Denby Dale

Route Description
This is Stage 2 of the Penistone Line Trail. It follows paths, bridleways and minor roads through woodland and open countryside. There are extensive views throughout. Refer to the website; penline.co.uk for a detailed description.
The walk starts from the charming little station of Brockholes, as we follow a woodland path gradually uphill, which becomes steeper as we approach ‘Top of the Hill’. The route continues through Thurstonland for views of the dominant Emley Moor TV Mast and then a good downhill stretch to Thunder Bridge. We follow Shepley Dike fof a short distance and go through arable fields to arrive at Shepley Station.
Flat paths through lovely countryside lead to a steady uphill to Upper Cumberworth for more fine views. The last mile is downhill to Denby Dale with views of its historic railway viaduct.

Elsecar Park and Ride – S74 9NF. Meet for 9.30. The train leaves Elsecar at 0953. You can also join the train in Sheffield 0935, Meadowhall 0941, Chapeltown 0947, Penistone 1019. Arrives Brockholes 1038. Best to get a day return to Brockholes which you can use on any return train.
