Route Description

This is a walk from Honley. It offers fantastic all round views of Kirkless district throughout. I am putting this walk on again at the request of members who enjoyed it the last time and have asked me to lead it again.

This walk starts from the small town of Honley and consists of field tracks, unmade roads with a little road walking in Honley itself. The walk offers view of Castle Hill and Emley Mast.There are a few squeeze stiles on this walk which certainly live upto their name in that they really are a squeeze to get through. The walk starts from Gynn Lane in Honley. We walk for a short distance through the town then pick up a path which takes us along the banks of the River Holme. We then ascend out of Honley itself to pick up off road footpaths through pleasant woodlands. After a short but steep climb we reach Honley Woods. Walking up the edge the wood we eventually turn and walkthrough fields and around the edge of Meltham Golf Course to reach our lunchstop at the side of the reservoir overlooking the golf course. After lunch there is a short climb (I want to do the top end of the walk the other way round to the previous walk, just to vary things up a bit, hence the short climb after lunch.) before we then return to Honley wood and start our run of squeeze stiles to reach the small hamlet of Oldfield. We will then start our decent back into Honley and a welcome but optional pint in the Jacobs Well, before we make our way back to the cars.
