SUMMARY:A Reyt Pair of Cloughs
DESCRIPTION:Route Description\nAn adventurous Peak District walk featuring Grade 1 scrambles of Crowden Clough and Grindsbrook Clough. \nThis guided walk by Sheffield Walkers includes two iconic routes to Kinder Scout. From the Mam Nick National Trust Car Park\, a walk along Rushup Edge provides a magnificent vista of the Edale Valley and our entire route. After descending to Upper Booth\, we begin our climb of Crowden Clough to the Kinder Plateau. This is a Grade 1 scramble of a rocky stream bed with small waterfalls and boulders – although we will mostly follow paths along its side. \nAfter reaching Crowden Tower\, we turn right to the mouth of Grindsbrook Clough. This is a Grade 1 scramble descent leading to a nice easy path to Edale and a steep climb back to the car park shadowing Harden Clough. \n\n\nRoute Map & Elevation\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDownload GPX \n\n\nDirections\nDirections in Google MapsDirections in Apple Maps \n\n\nOther Information\nParking charges apply – £6 for over 4hrs\, but free to National Trust Members. On street parking is available on surrounding roads\, but do not park where there are double yellows or other restrictions – even on the verge as Parking Wardens operate in this area. The best place for free parking is Old Mam Tor Road. \nRisk Assessment\nA Grade 1 scramble involves easy scrambling with hands occasionally required; clear line of ascent; no technical climbing. The main risks are:\n– slips and falls: loose rock\, polished holds\, wet or muddy slabs.\n– exposure: short sections with steep drops; risk of loss of balance.\n– weather conditions: rain\, wind\, ice\, or poor visibility increasing slip risk. \nWith appropriate clothing and footwear\, this level of risk is acceptable for competent walkers. If weather conditions deteriorate\, alternative routes to ascend (via Jacobs Ladder) and descend (via Grindslow Knoll) will be taken. \nRoute Website: Open external route page
