SUMMARY:Magpie Mine and Monsal Dale
DESCRIPTION:Route Description\nA varied circular walk combining open White Peak District countryside\, atmospheric mining remains and the wooded beauty of Monsal Dale. \nStarting in Ashford-in-the-Water\, this route by Sheffield Walkers crosses the River Wye and climbs towards Sheldon\, enjoying widening views across the surrounding limestone countryside. Our route then turns towards Magpie Mine\, where the striking remains of the old lead workings stand among open fields; a distinctive reminder of the Peak District’s industrial past. \nFrom the mine\, we head north-west across farmland before descending into Deep Dale. The enclosed limestone valley provides a lovely contrast to the open ground above\, leading us towards Monsal Dale and the River Wye. Here we follow the river through a landscape of wooded slopes and grassy banks\, passing the weir as we approach the impressive Headstone Viaduct. \nA climb brings us onto the Monsal Trail\, where we cross the viaduct with views along the dale before heading through Headstone Tunnel. Leaving the former railway behind\, we turn south onto field paths for the return to Ashford-in-the-Water. \nExpect a mixture of pasture\, stony dale paths and easy trail walking\, with several climbs and descents. Field and riverside sections can be muddy\, while limestone underfoot may be slippery when wet. \n\n\nRoute Map & Elevation\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDownload GPX \n\n\nDirections\nDirections in Google MapsDirections in Apple Maps \n\n\nOther Information\nPark at Ashford Car Park (voluntary contribution) or on street parking in the village. Please park considerately. \nRoute Website: Open external route page

SUMMARY:Wentworth Church Circular
DESCRIPTION:Route Description\nOur walk will take us through fields and woodland paths to the ancient Church at Wentworth. This is the final resting place of the early gentry and servants of Wentworth Woodhouse. This route will be very familiar to many members and one which I have always enjoyed.\nMeeting at The Miners Arms\, Warren Lane\, Sheffield S35 2YD.\n10 am for 10.15 am start \nOn reaching Hood Hill Farm via the busy Station Road there are 2 stiles to negotiate when passing through the field. The path we will follow has loose stones care needs to be taken here. There will be some pavement walking on Hood Hill before we turn into the lane to a gravel path which will take us to the church. Our return to the start and our optional debrief at the Miners Arms will be by the Coach Road and the TPT to Hood Hill then across Station Road.\nThe usual rules apply in the wooded area over hanging branches\, tree roots and as always mud!! \n\n\nDirections\nDirections in Google MapsDirections in Apple Maps \n\n\nOther Information\nThere is road parking and dogs are very welcome on the walk and in the Miners Arms. I would advise you to bring a pole if you have one as it may be muddy plus it helps on the stoney paths.

SUMMARY:Bamford – Stanage Edge – Derwent Edge Circular
DESCRIPTION:Route Description\nCombining the gritstone drama of Stanage Edge\, the open moorland of Derwent Edge and magnificent views over Ladybower and the Hope Valley\, this is an outstanding circular walk showcasing some of the finest scenery in the Dark Peak. \nThis Bamford\, Stanage Edge and Derwent Edge circular walk by Sheffield Walkers is a superb 12-mile Dark Peak adventure combining two celebrated gritstone escarpments with expansive views across the Hope Valley\, Ladybower Reservoir and the surrounding Peak District moors. Starting in Bamford\, the route climbs steadily from the village towards Stanage Edge\, gaining increasingly impressive views as it reaches the open high ground. \nThe walk then follows the dramatic gritstone crest of Stanage Edge\, one of the Peak District’s most distinctive natural landmarks. Weathered tors\, rocky outcrops and the remains of the area’s historic quarrying industry accompany far-reaching views towards Kinder Scout\, Win Hill and the hills surrounding the Hope Valley. The elevated path offers a strong sense of journey before leaving the edge and crossing the quieter moorland around Moscar. \nA further climb reaches the southern section of Derwent Edge and Lead Hill\, where outstanding views open across Ladybower Reservoir and the Upper Derwent Valley. This wild and exposed landscape provides another memorable stretch of high-level walking before the route descends towards the valley and returns through lower countryside\, tracks and lanes to Bamford. \nYou are welcome to join us for a curry after the walk at the Curry Cabin in Hope. Use comments below to confirm if you’d like to join us. \n\n\nRoute Map & Elevation\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDownload GPX \n\n\nDirections\nDirections in Google MapsDirections in Apple Maps \n\n\nOther Information\nFree parking on Mytham Bridge. Please park considerately. Meet by the Bus Stop. \nThis walk will finish in the dark. Please bring a torch. \nRoute Website: Open external route page

SUMMARY:Wednesday Walkers Christmas lunch
DESCRIPTION:Route Description\nThe Wednesday Walkers Christmas lunch has been booked for 12.30pm on Wednesday 9th December at the Commercial\, Station Road\, Chapeltown. I think it’s fair to say that the food and service we receive is always excellent\, so whilst the date is a week earlier than originally planned\, we would struggle to find a better venue. \nObviously it isn’t a FREE event as the heading suggests!! \nAs usual\, there will be a walk which will start/finish at the Commercial (details of which will feature on a separate post nearer the time) and anyone not able/wishing to walk on the day is obviously still more than welcome for the lunch!! \nThe cost of the meal this year is £27.50pp and I am suggesting an optional £1.50 for a staff tip (making a total of £29.00pp) – this will save us the embarrassment on the day of rummaging through pockets and rucksacks for loose change! \nPayments should be made to the following account:-\nSheffield Walkers\nSort code 30-91-91\nAccount No. 36022968\nReference Commercial \nPlease add to the comments section below when you have paid\, menu choices and any dietary requirements. \nWhilst it’s a bit early to be thinking about Festive attire\, at least we have plenty of time to go searching through wardrobes\, cupboards and drawers for all those Christmas jumpers\, Father Christmas suits\, reindeer antlers\, Elf outfits and anything else that brings Christmas cheer!
