SUMMARY:Magpie Mine and Monsal Dale
DESCRIPTION:Route Description\nA varied circular walk combining open White Peak District countryside\, atmospheric mining remains and the wooded beauty of Monsal Dale. \nStarting in Ashford-in-the-Water\, this route by Sheffield Walkers crosses the River Wye and climbs towards Sheldon\, enjoying widening views across the surrounding limestone countryside. Our route then turns towards Magpie Mine\, where the striking remains of the old lead workings stand among open fields; a distinctive reminder of the Peak District’s industrial past. \nFrom the mine\, we head north-west across farmland before descending into Deep Dale. The enclosed limestone valley provides a lovely contrast to the open ground above\, leading us towards Monsal Dale and the River Wye. Here we follow the river through a landscape of wooded slopes and grassy banks\, passing the weir as we approach the impressive Headstone Viaduct. \nA climb brings us onto the Monsal Trail\, where we cross the viaduct with views along the dale before heading through Headstone Tunnel. Leaving the former railway behind\, we turn south onto field paths for the return to Ashford-in-the-Water. \nExpect a mixture of pasture\, stony dale paths and easy trail walking\, with several climbs and descents. Field and riverside sections can be muddy\, while limestone underfoot may be slippery when wet. \n\n\nRoute Map & Elevation\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDownload GPX \n\n\nDirections\nDirections in Google MapsDirections in Apple Maps \n\n\nOther Information\nPark at Ashford Car Park (voluntary contribution) or on street parking in the village. Please park considerately. \nRoute Website: Open external route page

SUMMARY:Chee Dale and Deep Dale Circular Walk
DESCRIPTION:Route Description\nCombining peaceful limestone dales\, open countryside\, railway heritage\, riverside woodland and the iconic Chee Dale stepping stones\, this is an outstanding White Peak circular walk with plenty of scenery and interest throughout. \nThis Chee Dale and Deep Dale circular walk by Sheffield Walkers is a wonderfully varied 8.6-mile route through the limestone countryside of the White Peak. Starting from Wye Dale\, the walk descends towards the River Wye before turning into the quieter surroundings of Deep Dale. Limestone cliffs\, flower-rich grassland and secluded dale scenery lead towards Chelmorton\, where traditional stone walls\, open farmland and elevated views provide a striking contrast to the sheltered valleys below. \nFrom Chelmorton\, the route follows sections of the Midshires Way and Limestone Way across classic Peak District countryside before descending towards Miller’s Dale. The former railway station and Monsal Trail introduce the area’s fascinating industrial heritage\, after which the walk enters the dramatic limestone gorge of Chee Dale. Here\, a twisting riverside path passes beneath towering crags and through lush woodland beside the clear waters of the River Wye. \nThe final section includes Chee Dale’s famous stepping stones\, squeezed between the river and the sheer limestone walls. These are among the most memorable features of the walk and provide an adventurous finish before the route returns through Wye Dale. The riverside path is rocky\, muddy and slippery in places\, while the stepping stones may become submerged or unsafe after prolonged rain. With approximately 411 metres of ascent\, this is a moderate Peak District walk best suited to walkers wearing supportive footwear and comfortable crossing uneven ground. \n\n\nRoute Map & Elevation\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDownload GPX \n\n\nDirections\nDirections in Google MapsDirections in Apple Maps \n\n\nOther Information\nFree parking on the Chee Dale Layby off the A6 to Buxton. \nRoute Website: Open external route page

SUMMARY:Bamford Skyline: Win Hill and Bamford Edge Circular Walk
DESCRIPTION:Route Description\nCombining two outstanding summits\, contrasting gritstone scenery and exceptional views over Ladybower Reservoir and the Hope Valley\, the Bamford Skyline is one of the most rewarding shorter circular walks in the Dark Peak. \nThis Bamford Skyline circular walk by Sheffield Walkers is a superb 7.2-mile route linking two of the finest viewpoints above the Hope Valley: Win Hill and Bamford Edge. Starting in Bamford\, the walk crosses the lower countryside around the village before beginning a sustained climb towards the distinctive summit of Win Hill. \nAt 462 metres\, Win Hill provides magnificent panoramic views across Ladybower Reservoir\, the Upper Derwent Valley\, Kinder Scout and the Great Ridge between Lose Hill and Mam Tor. Its rocky summit and trig point make a memorable high point\, with the surrounding hills unfolding in almost every direction. The route then descends steeply towards Yorkshire Bridge and Ladybower\, losing much of its height over rough and potentially slippery ground. \nAfter reaching the valley\, a second significant climb leads onto Bamford Edge. The gritstone rocks provide one of the Peak District’s classic views\, looking directly over Ladybower Reservoir and across to Win Hill. Following the edge reveals further views along the Derwent Valley and across the surrounding moorland before the route turns south over Bamford Moor and descends towards the village. \n\n\nRoute Map & Elevation\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDownload GPX \n\n\nDirections\nDirections in Google MapsDirections in Apple Maps \n\n\nOther Information\nFree parking on Mytham Bridge.
