Day / Night Walk: Lose Hill and Win Hill Skyline

Strenuous
January 4 @ 2:00 pm8:30 pm
Free

Places remaining: 25

Route Description

A walk up two of the finest hills in the Peak District with magnificent views to reward the effort.

This walk is now a day/night walk to observe the Quadrantids meteor shower. While this is not the ideal time or conditions – we may get lucky and spot the odd meteor trail.

CONDITIONS ARE LIKELY TO BE COLD SO APPROPIATE CLOTHING, A HAND TORCH AND A HEAD TORCH ARE ESSENTIAL

Starting near Brough, we walk through Hope and up to the base of Back Tor on the Great Ridge. From there we climb to Lose Hill then descend to Townhead before crossing under the railway at Normans Farm. We then climb to the Roman Road and finally to Win Hill. We will spend some time here to observe the sky for meteors before descending back to Brough. This is a 10.5 mile circular route with 2115 ft of total ascent.

  1. Suggestion:
Few signed up so far, how about a later time meet-up at the Travellers? (as suggested by yourself Forid and Ingrid)

If want Star Gazing, a light meal at Travellers then walk up Win Hill.
    Warm clothes.
I have lots of Bivy bags to nestle down in if needed.
Head torch (red light best for star gazing)

Done it before when bivvying up there and well worth effort.

  2. Helen, Bev, Tom and I are going to have a meal at the Travellers Rest b4 the walk if anyone would like to join us. We aim to be there for 1130-1145 am, so we can eat for 12pm to allow the food to go down b4 walking. You don’t need to book a table according to the website.

  3. Ignore the above. Helen, Tom and I are up for a curry jn Hathersage after the walk, I’ll check with Bev. The Travellers stop serving food at 6 pm on a Sunday, that’s why we were going for lunch initially.
